As can be seen from the outrage of the media to the self-righteousness of our modern day protestors, when the issue of gun control is raised there is controversy and heated words abound. There are many valid concerns on the side of gun control as well as the anti-gun control side, as there are people on both sides of the issue who are very passionate about their belief on the matter and cannot be easily persuaded. For some people, the issue of gun control goes far deeper than the simple phrase would lead you to believe. To many people it is not purely a dispute over people possessing the right to own, keep, and carry firearms. Firearm regulation is so extremely significant to numerous individuals because to them it holds two extended connotations: protection and liberty. Firearms can ensure a feeling of security for many, but impose a feeling of danger to security for others. Gun ownership represents liberty to some, but to others is an obstruction to the right to live apart from guns. For those who desire gun control, gun ownership is a threat to their peace of mind but to those who scorn gun regulation, gun ownership is a right provided by the U.S. constitution and should not be obstructed. This shows us that people are divided on the issue because they believe that their ideal is better and the other side is misguided. This issue is similar to many others in life, in that perhaps the best outcome that can be achieved is if both sides give a little and reach a compromise.
